The Allotment Local History Group
We started this local history project a few years back as a Facebook page, that was hacked and deleted and we decided to not use any social media platforms in the future
This time we are hosting our own website using my own domain, which is where the johnsmancave.org comes from. The site is open to all , the big change is that we are asking anyone interested in contributing or posting in the Blog to register first. This is only to allow us to moderate any comments and make the website a friendly place to visit.
The intention was to keep the focus on what started off as the original Allotment Village, but being realistic it has be more than that, people moved around the pits as the coal ran out, entire families moved in and out of the village, the wagonways and railways hauling coal extended from the Tyne to North of Newcastle. The engineer at the Shiremoor Engine House came here from Germany, all these strands are part of the local history.
