The Community Centre

The West Allotment Community Centre, on Benton Road, was originally a workmen’s institute, built in 1901 and later used as the local pay office of the Coal Board. Then in 1963, the building became the West Allotment Boys Club. In 2015, the building was refurbished and renamed West Allotment Community Centre.

West Allotment Community Centre is a registered charity ran entirely by volunteers. It was setup in 1963 by a group of local people who wished to establish a boys club.

The running of the centre was took over by Kelly & Stephen Wood with a group of new trustees & volunteers in April 2015 when it was changed to West Allotment Community Centre. Our main ambition was to get the centre refurbished as it was in a poor state & to get the community using the facilities more.

Since taking over the community centre we have managed to secure arround £40,000 from The Big Lottery Fund, Sita – Foyer Foundation, Community Foundation, Asda Foundation, Schofield Trust & RW Mann Trust. With this funding we have managed to carry out a full refurbishment of the building.

We currently have a number of different groups using the centre which is also available for hire for parties, meetings & events etc.
