What it was – A post office run by a sub-postmaster or sub-postmistress as a self-employed agent for the Post Office. That’s the legal definition, it does not mention the huge role Sub Post Offices played in local communities, a shop or general dealers being just a few.

Nancy Booth was the Postmistress and her husband Bob in support, although he did seem to be a very good local organiser and chased up the Council on many occasions.

The photo records the retirement of the local postman, the card he is being handed with has about every sticker and label that a post office would use.
